The number one moment of 2015 has to be watching the Kansas City Royals finish what they started last season by wining the World Series. The Royals came up just short the year before against the San Francisco Giants and were determined to win when this seasons started. The front office chose not to make any big moves in the offseason, instead believing in the group of guys they had built over the years.
The Royals coasted to the playoffs winning the AL Central division easily. The team acquired pitcher Johnny Cueto in the middle of the season to help bolster their starting rotation. In the ALDS against the Houston Astros, the Royals struggled initially. The series went to five games with the Royals knocking Houston off 7-2 behind a strong performance by Cueto. With eight strong innings, Wade Davis came in for the save and help the Royals advance to the ALCS to face Toronto.
The Royals had an excellent series against the Blue Jays; showing off their ability to rally late in games. Kansas City was headed back to the World Series without any major power bats in their lineup for the second year in a row. The team chased David Price out of game two after he surrendered five runs in the seventh inning. The Royals pitching had some bumps in the series, however, that stellar bullpen was able to hold games for the team.
The Royals were favorited against a very young and inexperienced New York Mets team in the World Series. The Mets have some stellar young pitchers that have been the talk of the season, especially after the team acquired outfielder Yoenis Cespedes showing their commitment to winning now. The Royals had an early two game lead to begin the series, but the Mets won a crucial game three at home. Crucial mistakes and playoff inexperience cost the Mets and helped the Royals win the next two games to win the series and the title. Catcher Salvador Perez was named MVP of the series.
That’s it for top moment of 2015! Can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store for us!
