45-0. Forty-five men have tried and forty-five men have failed. Floyd Mayweather has never lost in the boxing ring, but neither did Canelo Alvarez, until he met Mayweather. Both of these fighters put their undefeated records on the line.
Despite being 13 years his senior, Mayweather was the one who landed the big blows to get the win. Alvarez is heavier than Mayweather, but it did not seem to help him in this fight. Mayweather made very few mistakes, something he attributed to his father’s game plan. “My dad had a brilliant game plan, and I went out there and got the job done,” he said. Alvarez, on the other hand, had difficulty landing his punches, many missed Mayweather’s face completely.
He won by majority, even though many argue that it should have been unanimous. Only judge C.J. Ross did not vote in his favor, instead calling it even. With the win, he added the WBC super welterweight belt to his list of accomplishments. He also walked away with $41.5 million for the fight.
