Instead of feeling defeated down one of their better players, Louisville instead used Ware’s injury as inspiration. Ware later admitted that he wanted to be strong when he was injured and told his teammates not to worry about him and win this game. Head coach Rick Pitino and his Louisville teammates took Ware’s comments to heart and did win the NCAA Championship in his honor. Ware had successful surgery on his leg and was able to be court side to watch Louisville win the NCAA Championship.
His injury became an inspiration for others dealing with serious injuries. He visited others in the hospital, including one young girl who was in a car accident, but said Ware was her hero. Many assumed due to the extreme nature of this injury, his basketball career would be over. However, he has made a full recovery and has already played in some of Louisville’s games this season.
He was recently seen walking on crutches at the Miami Heat-Indiana Pacers game, but Louisville officials say it is nothing serious. Instead saying he was kicked in the shin and it is just very sore. Louisville plays Florida International tomorrow and Ware is not expected to play. It is amazing just to see this guy back on the court after suffering such a horrific injury.
