NBAIt was the most anticipated return in the NBA this season. Former MVP Derrick Rose was finally going to return to the court after a 526 day absence. He did not play all of last season after tearing his ACL in the previous year’s playoffs. Making his debut against the Miami Heat, Rose looked like he was still adapting to playing in the NBA, but it was clear the explosiveness that made him so good was still there. A sight that everyone made every Chicago fan smile. He finished the night with 12 points, but the Bulls were handed their first defeat.
The Bulls had not gotten off the greatest start, but they were getting better and better each game they played together. However, it all came to a screeching halt on November 23rd in a game against the Portland Trailblazers. Rose came down limping after a play and he was unable to make it down court. It was a sight that no Bulls fan ever hoped to see again. Rose limping to the bench, unable to come back into the game. It was announced the next day that Rose had suffered a tear in his right knee, not the knee with the repaired ACL.
It was then announced later that Rose elected to have surgery to repair the meniscus which would result in him missing the rest of this season. For a guy with as much talent as Rose, it is such a shame that he has been sidelined with such serious injuries these past two seasons. He did say that there was a possibility if the Bulls made it to the playoffs that he would return. The reality of that actually happening, however, is quite slim. Another year, we wait for Derrick Rose to make it through an entire season.
