While the Sixers were busy trying to make a historic losing streak, another basketball team was looking to make a different type of history. John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats are one of the best college programs in the entire country. The Wildcats had one of the most stacked teams ever assembled in college basketball history.
The team featured Karl Anthony-Towns, Willie Cauley-Stein, and the Harrison twins, Andrew and Aaron. The team cruised through the regular season to a perfect 31-0 record, a first in the school’s history. As if that was not impressive, the team won every game of the SEC Championship by double digits. This team was easily the favorite when it came time for the tournament.
The team cruised, until it matched up against Frank Kaminsky and the Wisconsin Badgers. The Wildcats were up by four with four minutes remaining in the game and looked like they were going to pull away with win number 39. However, the Badger went on a 15-4 run to upset Kentucky and end their season abruptly. Sam Dekker hit a three with 1:44 remaining in the game to give Wisconsin the lead and the Badgers never gave it back. Wisconsin went on to face Duke in the NCAA Championship game, where they would lose to Jahlil Okafor and the Blue Devils. Karl Anthony Towns, Willie Cauley-Stein, Andrew and Aaron Harrison all left Kentucky and elected to enter the NBA draft.
