Jameis Winston was having one of the greatest years in college football history. Everything seemed to be going his way, until media outlets got a hold of a sexual assault investigation that Winston was connected to. After some further digging, the report made allegations that a fellow Florida State University student had accused the quarterback of raping her one night in December 2012.
The investigation was put on hold after the woman stopped being cooperative with police. However, once the media got a hold of the allegations, the police decided to re-open the case. The Tallahassee Police came under fire after they alleged threatened the victim about going forward with pressing charges. The accuser claimed police told her bad things would happen to her if she went through with the case. No detective or police officers were ever arrested for this. The Florida State Attorney, William Meggs, did an evaluation of the evidence to decide if there was enough evidence to file charges against Winston.
It was then reported that Winston’s DNA was found on the woman’s underwear, something that did not shock Winston and his attorney. His attorney said he was expecting those results as the pair had consensual sex. After weeks of reviewing the case, Meggs held a press conference to announce his decision to not pursue charges against Jameis Winston. With the thought of being charged behind him, he can now focus on the Heisman Award; something he is highly favored to win.
