Adrian Peterson is one of the best players in the NFL. Unfortunately, his off-the-field life dominated the story lines for the former MVP running back. Peterson was arrested back in September for allegedly punishing his four-year-old son with a switch that left cuts all over his body. Peterson did not deny striking the boy, but insisted he never intended to hurt him. He was indicted by a Montgomery, TX grand jury on counts of reckless and negligent injury to a child. The Minnesota Vikings immediately suspended Peterson and placed him on the Commissioner’s Exempt List until the case was resolved.
Peterson pled no contest to the charges. He made a deal with prosecutor and the charges were dropped to misdemeanor reckless assault. He avoided jail time and instead had to perform community service hours and pay a fine. Peterson was hoping to be reinstated by the NFL, unfortunately his appeal was denied today and Peterson all sit out for the remainder of the season. Harold Henderson, the officer in charge of Peterson’s appeal, announced today, the running back “was afforded all the protections and rights to which he is entitled, and I find no basis to vacate or reduce the discipline.” It is unclear if Peterson will be on the Vikings’ roster next season, but he does want to continue playing in the league.
