Three former players will be immortalized in Cooperstown this summer. Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, and Frank Thomas were selected by the members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Maddux received 97.2 percent of the votes, which was the eighth most in history. The former players will be inducted on July 27th along with former managers Joe Torre, Bobby Cox, and Tony LaRussa.
Other players on the ballots included Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGuire, all of which have big numbers, but have been connected to steroid use. Former second baseman Craig Biggio fell just two votes short of being elected into the hall. He said he was proud of Glavine, Maddux, and Thomas, but was disappointed he fell just short, saying “hopefully, next year”. Both Maddux and Glavine played under Bobby Cox for parts of their careers and are excited to go into together.
