USC cornerback Josh Shaw went from hero to villain in a matter of days. Before the football season began, USC announced that their star defensive back has suffered an injury for an undisclosed reason.  A story was placed on the school’s website and started gaining national attention that he had suffered an ankle injury after jumping off his balcony to save his nephew from drowning in a pool.
Shortly after, rumors started circulating that the story was a hoax to cover up an alleged domestic violence arrest. Two days after the story was posted, Shaw admitted the story was false. He was suspended for part of the season, but reinstated before USC faced its top rival, UCLA.
