The Miami Heat did it again. For the second year in a row, they brought an NBA Championship to South Beach. It took them seven games and one extremely clutch shot from Ray Allen, but the Heat beat Tim Duncan and the Spurs.
Miami went into Game 6 of the Finals down one game to San Antonio. The Spurs had a chance to win ring number five for Tim Duncan and it looked like San Antonio would win the NBA Finals after leading by five points with less than two minutes left. Manu Ginobili missed a free throw that allowed the Heat to have the ball. Despite having a chance at a comeback, many Heat fans started leaving the arena believing their team had no shot at winning. The Heat scored after Lebron James missed his first shot, but got a second chance from the three point and made it. Immediately, the Heat fouled Kawhi Leonard who only made one of his two free throws which set up the biggest shot in Ray Allen’s Hall of Fame career.
One of the questionable coaching choices made during that game was that Tim Duncan was not in the game for that play which allowed Chris Bosh to get the rebound to set up the game tying shot. It was Chris Bosh who came up big again in overtime with two blocks that allowed Miami to win the game and survive to see a Game 7. It was crushing for San Antonio and they were not able to recover in Game 7. Behind Lebron James’ 37 points, the Heat won their second title. James also picked up his second Finals MVP award. With the Eastern Conference looking extremely weak this season, it is ver possible that the Heat could play for their third NBA title in as many years.
