It has been quite a week for these two teams. The 49ers were close to losing their All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI two days ago. While he will play, San Francisco has announced that Smith may enter rehab during the week to seek long term treatment. This would be a huge blow for the 49ers defense if he has to miss significant time. The Colts had a great week as they acquired running back Trent Richardson in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns picked up the Colts’ 2014 first round draft pick in the deal and basically put to rest any idea that they were planning to compete this season.
Richardson will play in today’s game and it will be interesting to see how he does after only having a few days to learn the Colts plays. Indianapolis has not a solid running back in many seasons; they lost Vic Ballard earlier this season to injury. Richardson should compliment young quarterback Andrew Luck and make their offense more complete. The 49ers are coming off a terrible week in which they were held to just three points by division foe, the Seattle Seahawks.
While the addition of Richardson will help make the Colts a more formidable opponent in the AFC, I still think the 49ers will win this one. They proved week one that they can be a dominant team and I think they will return to that this week. I expect Kaepernick to have a much better game and find his new favorite target, Anquan Boldin. I expect Aldon Smith to be a non-factor, but their defense can handle him having a quiet game. 49ers vs. Colts- Who You Takin?
