On April 5, 2013, a senseless act of violence rocked the city of Boston. As runners were crossing the finish line during the Boston Marathon, two men, whose names will be omitted, went to the marathon with pressure cook bombs in their backpacks. The incident killed three people and injured 264. It was the highest death/injured toll of a terrorist attack on American soil since September 11, 2001.
It took police a couple of days before they captured both suspects. One was killed by police, and the other was badly wounded. It was a day that no one will ever forget. People were left disfigured, many losing limbs. The streets were stained with victim’s blood. A city was shocked to its core and once again we all witnessed pure evil.
While some may crumble after an act of violence as heinous as this, the city of Boston banded together and started the #BostonStrong movement. The city united together through its sports teams and forgot about their differences and reminded everyone what the definition of patriotism is. When the television cameras left and politicians moved on to the next order of business, it was the people living in Boston who helped out their fellow citizens.
As time has gone on, some of the physical scars have vanished, but the emotional wounds will live on. However, despite the horror they have lived through, the people of Boston have become an inspiration.
