Just when you thought baseball was out of the steroid era, a scandal comes out to remind you that players are still using them. Tony Bosch’s clinic Biogenesis was exposed for supplying performance enhancing drugs to some of the top athletes in Major League Baseball. Names that were associated with the Miami clinic included Nelson Cruz, Jhonny Peralta, Ryan Braun, and Alex Rodriguez. In total, a dozen players were associated and subsequently suspended.
Braun vehemently denied steroid use at the end of last season, but was forced to admit to his wrong doings after this came out. Only one player, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, decided to appeal his suspension. While the the other players were given either 50 or 100 game suspensions, Rodriguez was given a 211 game suspension. It was unclear why he was given such a stricter punishment giving him the impression Bud Selig and MLB was out to get him. Rodriguez has since filed a lawsuit against the league, but a ruling has not come down yet. Rodriguez has described the entire incident as a “witch hunt” out to destroy his career.
