This year we saw a lot of big wins for athletes as well as a lot of big losses for others. None bigger than when Holly Holm handed Ronda Rousey her first loss. Nobody expected Holm to win, let alone knock out the undefeated champion. Rousey had to be taken to a local hospital after her loss where she had to get her lip sewn up after taking a huge kick to the face by Holm.
Since the fight, Holm became a massive celebrity following the fight. She was a guest on many late night talk shows and the subject of any sports fan conversation. The current champion said she would gladly give Rousey a rematch and a shot to regain her title. She admitted that it was because of how “dominant” Rousey is that this fight was so big and she thanked her for that after the fight. Holm has also mentioned the idea of going up a weight class to fight featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino.
Rousey on the other hand, has been laying low since the defeat. She is healing from the injuries she suffered in the octagon both mental and physical. In her first interview after the fight, she told ESPN the Magazine that she was, “really f–king sad”. She told fans on Instagram that she will return, but she is unsure when. Knowing Rousey’s competitive nature, it will not be long before we see her fighting someone else or Holm again to regain her title.
