Congratulations to the 2018 NBA Champions Golden State Warriors! The team completed a four game sweep over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. This is the team’s third title in four years, only losing in 2016 to those same Cavaliers. This is what we call a dynasty in sports. This core group of players, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, and yes Kevin Durant are one of the best team’s in NBA history.
It seems like this team waited in the wings while LeBron James won two titles in four years while with Miami. James, who had his own dynasty team with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, battled with the San Antonio Spurs for years until James decided to go home to Cleveland. It was at this time with the Spurs’ losing Tim Duncan to retirement that the Dubs started to rise.
While their other two titles were extremely impressive, this year was different. In 2015, everyone discounted the Warriors because the Cavaliers were without Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving. Last year, during their second title run, it was because of the addition of Kevin Durant and how unfair it was for any team. This year, however, they thoroughly destroyed their opponent. The Cavs were outplayed in every game and by the third game, they already looked defeated. Despite a phenomenal effort by James to at least make the games watchable, the Warriors were far too much. In the four games, James played 179 minutes, next was Kevin Love who played 133 minutes in the series.
It is easy to take away from the Warriors’ success, but why not just enjoy it? This team will be remembered as one of the best in NBA history. Instead of comparing them to Jordan’s Bulls or Magic’s Lakers why not just sit down and enjoy this greatness because they do not appear to be slowing down. David West said after the game that it was not easy and the team battled through many issues this season that would shock the public. West continued by saying the fact that the public never found out about the issues shows how strong their bond. It also shows that the entire Golden State franchise is a winner. Steve Kerr never lost control of the locker room and never looked to excuses. Congratulations to the Warriors and all of their fans on a well-deserved win and a team that will likely be a playoff contender for years to come.
