After days of speculation, Aaron Hernandez appears to have finally been arrested. The Patriots’ tight end was just seen being escorted from his home in handcuffs by two police officers. Hernandez has been involved in the murder investigation of his friend Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was seen leaving a bar with Hernandez and two other men the night of his murder. Police have executed multiple search warrants on Hernandez’s home, taking multiple bags of evidence with them. No word on what Hernandez has been charged with, but it will most likely be obstruction of justice after destroying his home surveillance tape and handing over his cell phone in two pieces. Much more to come from this story….
[UPDATE]: The tight end has been released by the New England Patriots.Upon his release, the Patriots issued the following statement: “A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
The team has also gotten rid of any Hernandez merchandise completely disassociating with him as a player.
