NFL training camps started at such a convenient time for people waiting to hear what Aaron Rodgers had to say about Ryan Braun’s admission of steroid use. Rodgers is a friend and business partner of Braun’s and has long been his biggest defender. When Braun was originally accused of failing a drug test, Rodgers came out on Twitter to defend his friend’s honor. He even bet his entire year’s salary on Braun being innocent.
One year later and a whole lot has changed. Ryan Braun has become a disgraced baseball player after admitting he used illegal substances. Braun was famously associated to the Biogenesis scandal and is now serving a 65 game suspension.
During Packers training camp, Rodgers addressed his feelings on being lied to by a guy he considered a good friend. “I was shocked, I really was, just like many of you were. I was backing up a friend. He looked me in the eye on multiple occasions and repeatedly denied these allegations and said they were not true,” Rodgers said. While he does not regret sticking up for his friend, he does however think he could have went about it differently (not risking his salary to start). While Rodgers says he believes in second chances and forgiveness, he is unsure where their friendship stands. Aaron Rodgers just got a lesson in how to not use Twitter!
