When a rookie enters their first game, it’s exciting and nerve-racking, wondering what’s going to happen when they play in their first game. Although, Raiders rookie Amari Cooper probably never thought what happened to him, would ever actually happen. The Raiders’ first-week match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals the 33-13 score wasn’t the biggest news of the game, instead it’s about Adam “Pacman” Jones and Amari Cooper.
31-year old Adam Jones was covering Cooper during a play before he tackled Cooper to the ground. Jones then proceeded to rip off Cooper’s helmet and smash his head into it. One thing that was a mystery was why Jones wasn’t ejected from the game immediately but ended up with a 15-yard penalty for a personal foul. This obviously isn’t Pacman’s first on the field issue and it most likely won’t be his last either. Here’s a look at exactly what happened between Jones and Cooper.
Many suspected what type of punishment that Jones would end up with, some thought it would be a fine or some thought it would be a suspension. After the NFL reviewed the footage, they issued a $35,000 dollar fine to Jones and Jones shared his outrage at the fine. Today, Jones was talking with reporters and made some interesting statements which include “Go ahead. Ask me! Yeah, I got fined. 35K. Way too much for a football play. I’ll appeal…” and when asked about the fine, Jones responded with “The story is magnified because it’s me.” which could be part of the reason why or the fact that it’s a pretty serious deal.
What Jones did to Cooper was completely unacceptable, because something could have happened to Cooper. If Jones would have been too rough or done something else, Cooper could have been seriously hurt or even lost his chance at playing. Thankfully, Cooper is ready to forget the event and is even proclaiming Jones’ innocence, but an incident like this is exactly what the NFL doesn’t need right now.
