After a much anticipated game, we have finally have a winner. The Alabama Crimson Tide took home the crystal trophy and they made it look easy. The Tide pulled off a shut out, 21-0, against Louisiana State University, not even allowing them to reach 100 total yards. LSU did not even cross the 50 yard line until deep into the 4th quarter! This Alabama team seems to be better than the pros! Fifteen of Alabama’s 21 points came off the foot of Jeremy Shelley who made five separate field goals in the first three quarters. It was not until there was only four minutes left in the game did Alabama score a touchdown. This game was so hyped up after the first meeting of these two teams in which LSU came out victorious in a grudge match that went into overtime.
The irony of these two games is that Alabama could have one the first match had they made their attempted field goals, kickers missed four field goal attempts in that game, while in the rematch Alabama only needed a field goal to win, of course they got more than just one. This game also puts Alabama in an elite class holding the record now for most championships with nine passing Notre Dame who currently has eight. It was also a person achievement for Alabama’s head coach, Nick Saban, who has won two championships in the past three years; three altogether in his career including one with LSU. An audio clip below shows the winners getting their trophies at the Superdome including a touching speech by Nick Saban.
