The regular season can not come quick enough for the San Francisco 49ers. While their quarterback is at the center of an alleged sexual assault investigation, linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested today at LAX airport.
It all started when Smith was pulled aside for a random screening at the airport. Police claim that is when things started getting out of hand with Smith acting, “belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding toward the gate area.”
He was quickly taken out of the airport in handcuffs and taken to a local precinct to be booked. Smith claims he did nothing wrong and the cops will be “embarrassed” once the truth comes out. This is not the first time Smith has been on the wrong side of the law.
During the regular season, he was booked on a DUI charge after crashing his car into a tree. He went to rehab after playing in the 49ers games against the Indianapolis Colts the next day. It was his second DUI charge in as many years. He has also been charged with three counts of illegal possession of a weapon in 2012. During that incident Smith was stabbed at a house party.
The team is aware of the situation and 49ers GM Trent Baalke released this statement, “We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith. As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment.” Sad that Smith cannot seem to get his act together. He is only 24 years old and has the talent to be one of the best linebackers in the game, but he just cannot stay out of trouble.
