Good news for San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith who successfully completed five weeks in a treatment facility. Smith checked himself in just days after hitting a tree while behind the wheel. He was taken into police custody and charged with DUI. Hopefully, he is clean and sober and can focus on football. While it is important for Smith to get back on the field, it is even more important that he stops drinking.
Shortly after getting out of rehab, Smith turned himself in on felony weapons charges. These charges stem from a house party in 2012. Smith allegedly fired warning shots into the air when the party started getting out of control. Smith himself was injured at the party, getting stabbed. After turning himself in, Smith was released on $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to be in court November 12th for the weapons charges and November 19th for the DUI charge.
Hopefully, once he is done with these court dates he can go back to focusing on football and living a healthy life. He is such a talented player with a bright future and it would be sad to see him not be able to get his life straightened out. Going to rehab was a great first step, now comes the hard part. If he can resist temptation, he will be one of the best linebackers in the league. The 49ers do not play this weekend.
