Announcing that this would be her final professional season, one of the most decorated track stars of all time Allyson Felix dedicated it to women. She has not only made history on the track but also off. After officially leaving her major sponsor Nike in 2019, Felix signed with Atheta, created her own shoe brand Saysh and has become an inspiration for many.
While Saysh is a shoe brand for both everyday wear and on the track, Felix has turned it into so much more. Founded in 2021, Saysh was a brand created for women, by women. Felix has used her own experience as a woman, mother, and athlete to come up with policies and ideas to make being one or all three (women, mother, athlete) that much easier.
This past April, Saysh introduced the Maternity Return policy. The policy stated that if you own a pair of Saysh Ones and your feet change size due to pregnancy the company will send you a new pair no strings attached. This may seem little to some. However, it means so much to women who are going through such a drastic change while pregnant and being unable to not feel their best due to the simplest of things like clothes and shoes no longer fitting. This policy allows soon-to-be mothers to feel good and look good in their favorite kicks.
Just last month Felix announced she will partner with Athleta and nonprofit organization &Mother to provide free, accessible child care for both athletes and coaches at select events during the 2022 season.
This is not the first time Felix has helped professional athlete mothers. It was just last year when Felix, Athleta, and the Women’s Sports Foundation teamed up to help with the cost of travel, daycare, travel companions, and more with the “Child Care Grant”. Helping a total of 21 mothers by awarding them a total of $10,000 each. The grant is now open once again and taking applications for its next round of funding.
Felix’s brand Saysh will also be donating 20% of their sales until August 8th to the “Power of She Fund”. This includes not just the “Child Care Grant” but two other grants called “Move Together” and “Well-Being for All”. All three may be for different groups but with one common goal, to help better the lives of girls and women of all ages.
This may be Felix’s last season as a professional runner, but make no mistake you can guarantee that she will continue making strides to make women feel heard, appreciated, loved and equal.
