Knicks fans got some bad news today when they learned that Amar’e Stoudemire will miss at least 6-8 weeks. At first it was a sore knee, but now it seems to be much more severe in that he will need surgery. Amar’e went through the same procedure on his other knee in the offseason and missed two months of the season. The Knicks are also without Carmelo Anthony for an undisclosed amount of time after experiencing pain in his knee that turned out to be built up fluid. The Knicks are currently in a game against the Utah Jazz and without the two stars, the Knicks are up by 26. So, do you need both in the lineup to win in the postseason?
This article is not to say that Stoudemire is a bad player. It just seems that there is not a real place for all that Amar’e can add to a team. He is not the big body guy who can help out Tyson Chandler in the post which is what the Knicks use him for. It is obvious when he and Carmelo are on the floor together, things don’t get as well as when they come on the court at different times. Because of knee injuries in the past, he has a maximum amount of playing time per night which limits his ability once again. However, because of the injury to Carmelo, the Knicks overused Amar’e against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a game they lost by one. So while Amar’e is injury prone, of course it is a loss for the Knicks, but if Anthony comes back in a game or two then I don’t think the Knicks will miss him as much as if he were on another team. I want to hear what the Knicks fans have to say on this!
