Too absolutely no one’s surprise, Jorge Posada officially ended his 17 year career. In that time he had won five World Series championships all for the New York Yankees. He ends his career on one of the worst years of his career in which he was batting ninth at one time an even benched. In his press conference, he thanked those in the Yankee organization, his family, and his best friend Derek Jeter. Jeter of course if the face of the New York Yankees and another member of the Core Four. He started tearing up when he recounted on their memories together.
He also stated, “I knew in my heart and I knew in my head I didn’t want to play anymore,” Posada said. In attendance was Diana Munson, the widow of former Yankee Thurmon Munson who died tragically in a plane crash. Munson said that Posada had inspired her to watch baseball moment. Posada finished his career as a 5-time All star, .273 batting average, 275 home runs, and 1,065 RBIs. The mayor of New York City had this to say, “Jorge Posada is a great Yankee and a great New Yorker. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I congratulate him on his outstanding career and thank him for the invaluable contributions he’s made to our city.” Goodbye Jorge, you will be missed. It is quite sad to see the end of an era coming. This core group was my whole childhood.
