It has to tough for the parents for both playoff bound Peyton Manning and already eliminated Eli Manning. While they are so proud of their oldest, they are also sympathetic to their youngest who is having a terrible season. The eldest of the Mannings, father Archie, was on the WFAN’s Boomer & Carton Show, he admitted, “Eli is dying right now”.
It has been a brutal season for Eli who has thrown a twenty interceptions, sharing the top spot with rookie Geno Smith. In his ten year career, he has always experienced success. The Giants have won two Super Bowl titles with him as their starting quarterback and he was MVP both years. The Giants just never got it going this season, get off to a dreadful 0-6 start and then losing a crucial game against the Cowboys that could have turned their season around.
Archie has tried to comfort his son, knowing how it feels to have a tough season being a former quarterback himself. He tried to point out the positives of this season instead. “I told him, ‘You and [Justin] Tuck, coach [Tom] Coughlin, you all held your locker room together. And that’s not the case everywhere around this league,” he admitted. It does say a lot about the respect level for the captains and their head coach who never let this team quit. Coughlin has come out publicly this week and said he wants his team to play with pride these last three weeks despite being out of contention, something the Giants are well-known for.
