When the Cleveland Big Three first formed, everyone was ready to hand them the trophy. However, the team has had a lot of growing pains and it is clear everyone involved is frustrated. The Cavaliers have been a mediocre team all season. Lebron James spent some time on the bench with injuries and Kevin Love has yet to figure out his role on the team.
Watching this team, there is a lack of play calling and overall coaching. First year head coach David Blatt appears to be clueless with what to do with a newly assembled team. Lebron James hope of coming home to Cleveland and dominating the NBA is not going as planned. Was that goal realistic? Was a team made of three stars who never really played together and a very weak bench realistic to become title contenders? No, but a .500 team was definitely not expected either.
It is not all on Blatt’s shoulders for the team’s 20-20 start. Cleveland lost their center Anderson Varejao for the season three weeks ago after he tore his Achilles tendon. This team still believes that it is meant to contend this season as it traded away two first round draft picks to the Denver Nuggets for center Timofey Mogzov. The team also made a splash when it got involved in a three team trade in which the team acquired JR Smith and Iman Shumpert from the New York Knicks.
With teams like Atlanta and Chicago dominating the East, it is becoming time to panic for the Cavaliers. This team barely beat a tanking Lakers team, which ended a six game losing streak. The Cavs are about to hit a tough stretch of games, playing the Clippers tonight and upcoming games against Oklahoma City and Chicago.
