Cincinnati has been silent this entire offseason, which is somewhat surprising after making the playoffs and losing in the first round again.  The team did however make a move today and extended their head coach Marvin Lewis’ contract for an additional year.  While Lewis is not a bad coach, it is quite odd that the Bengals would reward a coach who has never won a playoff game.

It is not the Bengals have not had opportunities to win in the postseason.  They have made it to the playoffs the last three seasons.  They actually have a very, very good team, but always come up short once the regular season ends.  It will not get any easier this season after losing defensive end Michael Johnson in free agency and Geno Atkins recovering from reconstructive knee surgery.  The Bengals also look content with quarterback Andy Dalton who has struggled in playoff games despite having one of the best receiver, AJ Green, on his team.  It seems as though this team is content just to win a lot of games in the regular season and make it to the playoffs despite not winning any of those games.
