Normally, practice squad players are an afterthought in the world of the NFL. However, one player, not named Michael Sam, was signed for a really incredible reason. Devon Still is a defensive tackle who is watching his four-year-old daughter battle the toughest fight.
Still’s daughter Leah was diagnosed with Stage 4 pediatric cancer in June. Unable to fully commit to football, Still was cut from the Cincinnati Bengals team. Only to find out the team had given him a position on their practice squad which allows him to continue to have medical insurance as well as a paycheck every week. Also, this will allow Still to spend more time with his little girl as practice squad members do not travel with the regular team.
When asked about his second chance, Still described it as “. . . a blessing in disguise for me.” Still has posted pictured of his daughter fighting the toughest battle of her life including the picture above taken after her fourth round of chemotherapy. Please keep Leah in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to fight!
