In case you didn’t know, the Chicago Blackhawks were facing a continuous streak of home game losses, three to be exact, but that all changed Sunday night when Chicago hosted the San Jose sharks for a game.
Defencemen Trevor van Riemsdyk, Brent Seabrook, and Niklas Hjalmarsson of Chicago scored a goal each in the first period which set the mood for the game. Â For the Sharks, Joe Pavelski, who came off of a 5-3 victory in Dallas on Saturday night, scored twice for his team, but little did they know he would be the only one to score.
With a bit over seven minutes left in the game, Chicago had the lead. While the Sharks trailed behind them by one, they had a chance to tie the game when David Rundblad from Chicago was sent off for holding at 9 minutes of the third. Unfortunately, the Sharks fell short when the momentum was killed and Bryan Bickell of Chicago scored with his second goal of the season.
The final goal was an empty net goal by Jonathan Toews with just under two minutes left, bringing the score to a an impressive, on Chicago’s behalf of course, 5-2. Â Goaltenders Corey Crawford of Chicago and Antti Niemi of San Jose both finished with 32 saves.
