Earlier this month, Blake Griffin was involved in an altercation with Los Angeles Clippers equipment manager, Mathias Testi, that resulted in Griffin punching him. Griffin broke his hand and cost himself more playing time. Griffin was already sitting out with a partially torn quadricep that he suffered on Christmas Day. The Clippers quickly released a statement, suspending Griffin for four games without pay.
Ever since the incident, there have been talks about Griffin being traded. Those rumors were quickly dismissed by Clippers president Doc Rivers. In regards to the incident, Griffin has been relatively quiet. Shortly after the incident, he posted an apology on Twitter but has not said much since.
Griffin finally broke his silence on Tuesday sharing his regret with the media, “I am very truly, truly sorry for what happened…It was a situation between two friends that kind of got out of hand and I exercised poor judgment. … It is something that I feel awful about.” Griffin’s “second” apology could not come at a better time for the power forward.
The Clippers have thrived in Griffin’s absence with a record of 18-5. While Griffin’s absence has been good for the Clippers so far, they really could use him with their upcoming schedule. Their next game is against the San Antonio Spurs who are in second place in the Western Conference and the next nights they are scheduled to play the Golden State Warriors. There’s no need to explain how good the Warriors are.
Seeing if the Clippers can keep their fourth-place spot in the Western Conference will be the question.
