Due to a throat injury that was brought upon the Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist during the game on Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, the goaltender who made 31 saves that night will be sitting out for tonight’s game at the Garden against the Boston Bruins. Lundqvist took a puck to the throat during the second period, but after being treated by the Rangers medical staff, decided to continue and stay in the game.
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the team has decided to recall goaltender Mackenzie Skapski from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League to join the team. Skapski is being brought in as a backup for goalie Cam Talbot who will be starting tonight for Lundqvist.
The AHL goaltender has appeared in 24 games this season with the Wolf Pack and will be there tonight in the event that Talbot is pulled.
There is no word yet on the status of Lundqvists recovery, but it has been confirmed that it is not a concussion.
