A 6’8″ dominant center who can dunk, rebound, and box out who never settles for anything less than winning a title.  Sounds like a possible NBA legend in the making, except the player  just described is a woman.  If you haven’t heard of Brittney Griner from Baylor, you must have been living under a rock.  Griner is considered one of the most dominant players in women’s history, leading Baylor to a 40-0 record last season.  This season, her team was upset be Louisville in the Elite 8 and her college career has now ended.

The most logical next step would be for her to enter into the WNBA draft.  However, if it was up to one outspoken team owner, she would be competing against the best of the best in the NBA! Marc Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks told ESPN that he would take a chance on the talented young lady.  “If she is the best on the board, I will take her. I’ve thought about it. I’ve thought about it already. Would I do it? Right now, I’d lean toward yes, just to see if she can do it. You never know unless you give somebody a chance, and it’s not like the likelihood of any late-50s draft pick has a good chance of making it.”

While, Cuban’s statement has been met with criticism, Griner took to her Twitter in regards to his statement, “I would hold my own! Let’s do it.”  While she may be able to ‘hold her own’  there is no reason to parade her like a circus freak.  She is a talented player and deserves to make a name for herself not because of a publicity stunt for a team who has underperformed.
