Johnny Manziel got his first start and it went pretty much as bad as it possibly go. The Browns were shutout by their in-state rival Cincinnati, 30-0. Manziel finished his day 10 of 18 for 80 yards with two interceptions. It would have been three, but an offsides penalty cancelled it out.
Now it was his first career start so no one expected a perfect game, but after all the hype and media, you expected to at least be entertained. Instead, Manziel was mocked by defensive lineman Wallace Gilberry who sacked the rookie. Rey Maualuga and Brandon Thompson joined on the mocking, unfortunately for the Bengals Mualuga’s money celebration resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
