Finally, Josh Freeman has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback was benched last week in favor of rookie Mike Glennon, but that appeared to be the least of his problems. First there were the mysterious leaks to the media about Freeman being enrolled in the NFL’s drug program which forced him to come forward and admit that was diagnosed with ADHD and has been taking Adderall. This information was never supposed to be made public, but was clearly done to ruin the quarterback’s reputation. More confidential information leaked yesterday alleging that the Buccaneers have fined Freeman twice for “conduct detrimental to the team’ which includes missing a team meeting and sitting down for an unauthorized interview. Freeman was said to be in the team building when this meeting was going on. Head coach Greg Schiano was the one who told him to miss the meeting.
The Bucs originally wanted to trade the quarterback, but due to all the negative stories that “mysteriously” leaked, they were unable to find a team interested. Freeman is a case of how poorly a team handles a player. It is a shame how horrible the Buccaneers have acted over the past few weeks. If the leak was Schiano, I expect other players to request trades for a team where there is trust in the locker room. Hopefully, Freeman can find another job now that he is free from this nightmare.
