It is the biggest honor any athlete can receive, the Most Valuable Player award.  The MVP of the league is the one player that without him, the team would suffer tremendously. This year, it was obvious who exemplified that definition; Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera and Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen.

Pittsburgh Pirates Center Fielder Andrew McCutchen

Washington Nationals v Pittsburgh PiratesHe has brought excitement back to the Steel City.  For an organization that has waited 21 years to get into the postseason, and McCutchen finally made fans dreams come true.  Drafted in 2005 by the Pirates, McCutchen declined University of Florida’s scholarship offer.  He made his debut in 2009 and scored three runs in the game against the New York Mets.  It was clear he was a base stealing threat as well as a guy who could hit the ball out of the park. Over his career, he has gotten countless awards including Silver Slugger awards as well as a Gold Glove award. In 2013, McCutchen led the Pirates to their first winning season and playoff berth in over 20 years.  He finished the season batting .317 and hitting 21 home runs.  He is the true definition of a well rounded player.

Detroit Tigers Third Baseman Miguel Cabrera

There is not enough good things one can say about Miguel Cabrera.  Last year’s triple crown winner, the power hitter put up better numbers this year than last year.  While some power hitters are not known for their fielding, Cabrera is the exception. He finished this season hitting .348 with 44 home runs.  This is Cabrera’s second straight MVP award.  Cabrera is one of the best hitters in all of baseball’s history.  This year really showed his toughness as he played through multiple injuries, and still played at an elite level.
