On Friday, Montreal Canadiens coach Michel Therrien denied reports that goaltender Carey Price will miss the rest of the season due to an injury to his right knee after French-language newspaper La Presse said that the chances of Price returning this season were slim. La Presse also reported that the Canadiens don’t believe the injury will require surgery.
Therrien said “there’s no update,” following the Canadiens’ morning skate Friday in Buffalo, adding “he’s put in a lot of hours and he’s working extremely hard to make a comeback.”
Price won the Hart and Vezina trophies last season and has been out since November 25th because of a lower-body injury. Initially, Price needed six weeks to recover from his injury, but later on, it was announced that he would not return until after the All-Star Break. On January 21st, Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced he expected Price to need another three to four weeks of recovery time. Friday was the three-week mark and Price still does not appear to be close to returning. Price has yet to appear in practice and has not yet skated with his full goaltending gear.
Without price the Canadiens have gone 10-20-2. They are three points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Eastern Conference.
