It is every player’s dream to play for their hometown team. What if you consider two different cities home? New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony seems to be unsure where his hometown is. Yesterday, the Knicks visited Baltimore to play the Washington Wizards in what was considered Melo’s homecoming, but yesterday he gave an interview saying that Brooklyn, NY is the city that raised him. So, which is it Melo; Brooklyn or Baltimore? The people want to know!
Anthony himself tried to break down the confusion when a reporter asked him about his return to Baltimore.
“I was born in Brooklyn. I lived in Brooklyn until I was 9 to 10 years old. Where I really learned my life skills was when I was in Baltimore. That’s the city that raised me. Brooklyn will always be in my blood, always be in my heart. But Baltimore is the city that definitely raised me.”
Well, the true story is that Carmelo Anthony was born in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Brooklyn is where he first picked up a basketball. Anthony lost his father when he was two years old, and when he was eight his mother moved the family to one of the roughest neighborhoods in Baltimore. Melo went to Towson Catholic high school for three years before transferring to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. This is where he and Lebron James first squared off. He then headed back to New York to attend Syracuse University where he was a superstar. The rest is history.
So, Carmelo continues to call New York home when he is in New York and Baltimore is home when he is in Baltimore. Most Knicks fans don’t see this as much of an issue as long as he brings them that long-awaited title.
