Before the start of every hockey game, a warning can usually be heard through the arena telling patrons to be aware of pucks that may fly into the crowd during play time, but they never say anything about flying glass!
At last nights Oilers-Blackhawks game, a young woman seated fairly close to the glass was struck in the head when the plexiglass was dislodged by a hard check into the boards during the first period. The cause of the injury occurred when Edmonton’s Benoit Pouliot checked Chicago’s Niklas Hjalmarsson into the boards.
Being that it was her first ever NHL game, with the help and care of the United Center staff who tended to her rather quickly, she was able to finish out the game with a clothed wrapped around her head as a bandage. The woman, identified by Sportsnet.ca, as Alexis Bovard, held up through out the game and appeared to be fine. Despite needing a few stitches, she stuck it out long enough to watch the Blackhawks win in a 2-1 shootout.
