It is so much better to report athlete’s making fans’ dreams come true rather than how they drove drunk over the weekend. The story of Mitchell Marcus begins in El Paso, the manager of Coronado High School’s basketball team who is a special needs student with a love of basketball. He had never played a game in his high school career until his coach, Peter Morales decided senior night he would suit up and play the final few minutes of the game. His teammates, who admire Mitchell’s passion for the game, did everything they could to help Marcus score his first ever basket, but it was not until an unlikely friend gave Mitchell a chance did he get his moment of glory. Jonathon Montanez, a member of the opposing team, took the ball out of bounds and instead of giving the ball to a teammate he yelled out Mitchell’s name and passed it to him for the easy bucket! It was such an inspirational moment that put humanity above competition.
Music manager Scooter Braun is friend’s with Chris Paul and after seeing the video of this incredible story knew he had to reward the two boys and coach Morales for their display of humanity. Paul left court side tickets for the Oklahoma City Thunder game for the three men. After the game, the three men got a chance to hang out with Chris Paul and some of the other Clippers teammates as well as Thunder superstar Kevin Durant. During the game Mitchell had this to say, “I was very happy. Amazing, it’s my dream.” The teenagers next stop will be on the Ellen Degeneres Show. Sometimes there are things more important than winning.
