Outspoken Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested early this morning after being pulled over by police. He was charged with DUI and possession of a controlled substance. Police say he had prescription pills with him. Irsay has made it very public that he battled with addiction after having several surgeries that caused the dependency on the pills. He sought professional help for his addiction.
In 2013, Irsay said on Twitter that he has not had a drink in over 15 years. In December of 2013, he sent out this tweet which appears to be foreshadowing for his arrest last night.
He is currently sitting in Hamilton County Jail where he awaits a bond hearing. His bond was set at $22,500.
UPDATE: Irsay has officially been charged with four counts of felony possession of a controlled substance. The Colts released a statement regarding their owner’s arrest: “We are gathering information at this time regarding last night’s incident involving Jim Irsay. The team will issue additional statements when the facts are sorted and we are aware of the next steps to this process. Many fans have reached out to express their concern and we appreciate their support.”
