Yesterday, news broke that Dallas corner back Morris Claiborne stormed out of the Cowboys facility after being told he would no longer be a starter. The announcement came when Orlando Scandrick, Dallas’ original starter, had his suspension reduced under the new drug policy. Scandrick was suspended four games this summer after he tested positive for amphetamines.
When Claiborne received the news, allegedly, he walked out of the facility in disgust with the decision to demote him. However, now he is explaining his side of things. He returned to practice today and said, “The reason why I left was how something was brought to me and how it was presented to me. I felt myself at a place where I had to just leave the facility at that moment. I’m pretty sure everybody has been in that, got in that where they had to just leave. They had to remove themselves from what was going on at that time. I was ready for whatever fines or anything that came with that. I felt like if I stayed, who knows what would happen? I felt like the best thing for me was to leave.”
Claiborne has always had a stigma attached to him after the Cowboys traded up to get him. He has never quite lived up to expectations, owner Jerry Jones admitted trading up to get him was a mistake. Not the right attitude to have towards a young defensive back struggling. The Cowboys play the New Orleans Saints this week and will likely need all the help they can get so I am sure Claiborne will see plenty of the field this week. After this season? I cannot see him being a part of this team.
