Apparently, sometimes the football gods do hear your prayers and sometimes they even answer them. After the trainwreck of games with Brandon Weeden, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to change quarterbacks.
In a small blowout against the New England Patriots where the Cowboys only managed to score six points, the Cowboys have decided to let Matt Cassel have a chance at being the starter. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder who was one of the first to bring the story, Weeden has been made aware of the change and also shared that putting Cassel in would “bring some positive energy to the offense” which is something the Cowboys really need right now.
Since Romo’s injury against the Eagles in week two, the Cowboys have yet to win a game after coming off a 2-game winning streak. During each game, Weeden has inevitably shown that he has no place being Romo’s backup and overall lacked confidence with the football especially with his bad decisions and inability to finish games. If Cassel were to be put in as a replacement for Weeden, there is no doubt that the Cowboys would improve vastly as a team, especially with their stellar offensive line.
Though Cassel is younger than Romo, he has plenty of experience, having played for the Patriots, Chiefs, and Vikings. Even though Cassel has not played in a game since 2014, he will able to bring some confidence to the field and his stats aren’t too bad. While 96 career touchdowns and 70 interceptions aren’t great, his presence should be a relief for the Cowboys and their fans. However if Cassel can’t win some games, the Cowboys probably won’t win the NFC East this year.
