It has been a crazy day on the injury front in the NFL. First, news broke that Denver Broncos middle linebacker Von Miller was out for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs after suffering a torn ACL during yesterday’s game. Followed by an update on Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith spraining his PCL yesterday and will likely miss the Falcons game this Sunday.
That was enough to drive people in Las Vegas crazy, but then the bomb dropped, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is out for the season. Yesterday, it was clear Romo was playing through pain, but still led his team to a fourth quarter comeback wins, including the winning touchdown throw. It was reported that he was having pains in his back that were shooting down to his leg. This forced him to be unable to scramble out of the pocket, something he does extremely well.
Romo had back problems last year and had a cyst removed in the offseason. He said the pain, however, was in a completely different spot, calling that a “good sign”. It is unclear if Romo will need surgery yet. Dallas will have Kyle Orton start at quarterback next Sunday when they face the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East title and a spot in the playoffs. Tough, tough blow for the Cowboys who have been hit by the injury bug pretty hard. Despite his reputation, Romo gave this team their best option at winning.
