Since the season started, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to rely on a group of running backs to try to duplicate the success of DeMarco Murray last year. However, their attempts have been futile and the Cowboys have only won two measly games, but some of that is less about the running back situation and more about the loss of star QB Tony Romo. However, news broke this morning that the Cowboys decided to let running back Joseph Randle walk and while it probably came as a surprise to many, Randle’s departure could be what the Cowboys need to help them win some games.
There were subtle clues that the Cowboys were going to be getting rid of at least one running back. They had spent most of the off-season trying to fill the void at the running back position and decided to sign veteran RB Darren McFadden, brought Lance Dunbar up from their practice squad, acquired Christine Michael from the Seattle Seahawks and also acquired Rod Smith from the Seahawks. Apparently Dallas likes having Seattle’s leftovers, but the cutting of Randle should not only help the team but ramp up the production for McFadden who has yet to really give us a taste of vintage McFadden.
The reasoning for Randle’s release is his multiple off-the-field issues which is ironic for a team that still has the audacity to keep Greg Hardy on the roster. Regardless, Randle wasn’t putting up the numbers that the Cowboys wanted and cutting him seemed to be their only option at this point. Hopefully, McFadden and Michael can pick up the slack or the Cowboys will continue to lose games, making their fans less and less hopeful.
