Former NFL safety Darren Sharper will be behind bars for up to the next eight years after pleading guilty to sexual assault in Nevada. He was facing a life sentence, but reached a plea agreement with Las Vegas prosecutors.
Sharper is currently being held in a Los Angeles jail. He is still facing similar charges in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New Orleans. He is facing charges of allegedly drugging women and raping them while they were unconscious. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning the sentences will run at the same time as opposed to consecutively.
UPDATE: Sharper has officially been sentenced to twenty years in federal prison. The New Orleans Advocate is reporting Sharper is taking the twenty years as part of a plea deal for allegedly drugging and raping two women in New Orleans. This is a package deal of all the charges he is facing in four states. He pled no contest in Los Angeles and could end up serving ten years, which would be knocked down to nine after he spent one year in custody already.
