If you thought day one was exciting, day two was like something out of a movie. Between players going to rival teams and other players being released, it has been quite a busy day in the NFL. Here is a look at some of the biggest story lines from day two of fee agency:
1. The Denver Broncos have pretty much bought every available free agent. After getting their butts whooped in Super Bowl 48, the Broncos knew they needed to vastly improve their defense. Yesterday, they acquired both TJ Ward and Aqib Talib for their secondary and today they focused on their defensive line. Former Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware and the Broncos came to an agreement on a three year deal. With all of these piece joining Von Miller, the Broncos could finally have the defense they were looking for. The Broncos are sending a message to the league that they are going all in this season as it could be one of the last for quarterback Peyton Manning.
2. The New England Patriots have signed corner back Darrelle Revis. You can make fun of the Jets, but you actually have to feel somewhat bad for their fans. Many thought a reunion between the New York team and their defensive star was on the horizon, but instead he chose to go to the one team that would crush every fan to their core. Revis signed a one year deal with the New England Patriots, a team he once admitted to hating. After losing Talib, it made sense the Patriots would go after the corner back who will be a great addition to their defense which was almost always missing a key player this season. This could be all New England does until the draft as they do not like to make big splashes normally.
3. Golden Tate signed a five-year deal with the Detroit Lions. This one was quite unexpected. The Lions made it very clear that they were looking for a compliment to Calvin Johnson. However, Tate’s name never really came as a possible choice for that spot. It seemed like he was going to take a deal to stay in Seattle, but instead he has a new home in Detroit and will fit the compliment role nicely.
4. Steve Smith has reportedly played his last snap as a Carolina Panther. Smith has been a staple on the Panthers and it is hard to believe his team would treat him like this. However, it appears Smith is done in Carolina after thirteen years with the team. Smith wanted to finish his career with the team, but the interest did not appear mutual. The Panthers have not officially released the receiver, but it does not appear a deal will be reached. He is the Panthers all time leading receiver in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
