Good news for Bulls fans, point guard Derrick Rose is reportedly off crutches and will start traveling with the team very soon. Rose has been out since tearing his medial meniscus in his right knee and required season-ending surgery. This is the second straight season Rose was unable to play. Last season he sat out all season after tearing his ACL in his left knee during the playoffs.
When talking to reporters, Rose said that if he was healthy he would rejoin his team for the playoffs. However, it is unlikely the Bulls will make it that far as they are struggling to get back to .500 and just traded their second best player, Luol Deng. Deng was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers for draft picks and Andrew Bynum, who was released later that day.
Having Rose on the bench could help inspire a team that knows it is in a rebuilding year. Head coach Tom Thibodeau seems excited about his point guard’s progress. “He’s doing fine,” Thibodeau said. “He’s off the crutches. He’s doing more and more, but he still has a long way to go. He’ll probably start traveling in the next couple of weeks, but he’s doing great.” It is sad to see such a talented player be sidelined, but hopefully he can be that explosive player that was so exciting to watch.
