Derrick Rose underwent surgery this morning to repair a medial meniscus tear on his left knee, and it was announced that he was done for the season. He chose to repair the meniscus, instead of remove it, or a piece of it, which would have allowed him the possibility to play again this season. Reattaching the meniscus requires 4-6 months of healing time. The injury occurred during Chicago’s game against the Trailblazers. Head coach Tom Thibodeau spoke with Rose and said he appeared to be in good spirits.
Thibodeau went on to say, “About as well as can be expected under the circumstances. And he’s already thinking about his rehab, and typical Derrick — concerned about his team, his teammates. But that being said, we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We’re the Chicago Bulls. We have one goal, that’s to win. And I believe we have the personnel in that locker room to get it done.”
Many fellow players have expressed kind words to Rose, and all have wished him a speedy recovery. Rose has only played 50 games over the last three seasons. It will be interesting to see how the Bulls handle this season, and if they decide to blow up the the current roster.
