Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson is arguably the best receiver in the league. He makes catches that look impossible while battling double and even triple coverage. Last week against the Giants, he had a very quiet game only having three receptions for 43 yards. Clearly he was not the same player who posted 329 yards just weeks earlier against the Dallas Cowboys.
Detroit is out of the playoffs and is looking ahead to next season. Johnson will not play today and doctors are now suggesting that he get offseason knee surgery. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Johnson has a sprained knee with “loose bodies” in it. Others are reporting that Megatron has a partially torn PCL.
Neither the Lions nor Johnson has ever publicly commented on these reports. However, the decision on surgery will ultimately be left up to Johnson. The knee injury is nothing new and has bothered him all season.
