If you follow Drew Brees on Twitter, you were treated to a nice picture of his bright smiling face with a shirt that read NOLA Love. He has a lot to love about New Orleans now. The quarterback finally settled his very long contract dispute with the Saints and he made out quite well. The quarterback is now officially the highest paid NFL player with a 5 year/$100 million contract. What is the best part of the contract though? The first year, Brees makes $40 million. No that was not a typo, he is making FORTY MILLION DOLLARS FOR THROWING A FOOTBALL. “I appreciate the diligence and steadfast efforts by both sides to get this deal done,” Brees told ESPN’s Ed Werder. “I love my organization, team and the city of New Orleans. Thank you especially to [owners] Gayle and Tom Benson for the opportunity. Now I need to go earn it.” How do you actually earn 40 million dollars? Yes, Brees is an amazing NFL player who I feel will use the money to bring good to others, but these contracts are getting outrageous. Before we know it, these players are going to be asking for billion dollar contracts (cough Dwight Howard cough). How do I get a job contract like that?
